In his artistic practice, Gilbert Bretterbauer pursues the description of space through elements of his furnishings. In a variety of objects that can be assigned to the field of applied art, functional art pieces and abstract design, a range is covered that is characterized above all by colourfulness and specific materiality. A particular quality of the works is above all their professional craftsmanship. The concept of interaction between art and design is revealed, for example, in chairs wrapped in thread, which are transformed into pure works of art through sensitive modification of the materiality. In turn, the artist plays free from categorization by creating abstract works of art such as textile fabric paintings.
